As a project manager, my life has been full of spreadsheets, timetables and lists, all in preparation for and leading up this moment – planning our wedding. Everything was planned perfectly and would go without a hitch, wouldn’t it? My fiancé (now husband!) and I had spoken about what we envisaged our day being and it wasn’t me running around like a crazy person making sure that everything was done exactly the way I wanted it to be done, pre-empting issues before they have happened, ushering guests into the right place at the right time and making sure we were running to time. What we wanted was for someone to come in and be “me” for the day – organized, in control and more importantly to understand our vision for the day and execute this. A little searching around on the web, and I found Ruth. She was everything we wanted and so much more. Ruth is reliable, unobtrusive, tenacious and hardworking. She was professional from start to finish and two weeks before the wedding, after a lengthy meeting to discuss every element of how we saw the day playing out, we were in business and on the same page. I felt completely happy to hand over control of the day to Ruth. I told a number of friends we were having an on the day coordinator to which most replied “really??”, they just couldn’t believe that I would be taking a step back from the organizing and letting someone else run the show - very uncharacteristic of me. However, I would only have done this to someone I trusted implicitly and I did with Ruth. David and I had the most fantastic day of our lives with all our friends and family, and we truly, do not believe that it would have been so perfect without Ruth. She made it possible to have the stress free day we were after, she took all the worry away from us so we could just enjoy it. She worked tirelessly in the background to make sure everything was done to our high standard, liaised with our suppliers, answering questions and finding solutions without worrying us. She kept the day running like clockwork and made sure that everyone was being looked after, especially my elderly grandmother who just loved all the attention! We will forever be in Ruth’s debt and our gratitude to her goes beyond words. She is an absolute star, a real hidden gem and I would not hesitate to recommend her services to anyone. When we considered hiring an on the day coordinator I questioned the expense but Ruth proved to be the best investment of the wedding. From the moment we first spoke I realised the value she could bring and she did not disappoint. She knows what she does, yet heard what we wanted and wove the two together to ensure that our day was perfect for us. Our vision was to step back in time with our guests and have a really fun party. It was not your typical wedding but it was filled with details and from a few weeks before when Ruth took over accountability for the vendors she was in charge of ensuring the details were executed. She did this flawlessly! From the band being on time at the church to attaching personalized drink tags to the wine glasses, and boas and pearls to the chairs everything was perfect. The swing dance class started and finished on time and when a dear friend took the microphone for her speech Ruth magically made a glass of champagne appear in her hand. Guests even commented on how great she was. On the day Ruth arrived early with her magic box in hand. She brought calm to the morning as she dug into the magic box to find flower pins for my bouquet (I had lost them somewhere between London and Bath)…when we first spoke Ruth questioned my decision to make my own, raised her concerns but when I gave my reasons she was supportive. She even cut the stems as I sat back to have my hair done. The magic box came out again during the reception to magic away the red wine a friend accidently spilled on my dress…Oops. The dress was saved and the party continued. At the end of the day we extended her to pack up all the little details eliminating that last little bit of stress. Ruth delivered a seamless day and night bringing calm, comfort and precision. She had it all in hand allowing us to be guests at our own party. If I could step back in time the only thing I would change is that I would hire Ruth from the beginning. We would still bring in our details but we know we could trust her with the leg work, the negotiations and to deliver our vision. As I said at the beginning, Ruth was the best investment of the day! If she is available, hire her, you will not be disappointed!
Our wedding day was amazing, better than we imagined! We came to Ruth with only a few months to go till our ‘big day’. We had grand plans in mind and knew the look and feel we were after. However, a generally short engagement teamed with our laissez-fair attitude and a busy bout of work meant we had little more than the venue booked! To complicate matters, the venue we had chosen was a private hire house and only allowed use of the outside grounds for the reception, leaving us subject to whatever mother nature threw at us on the day! It also meant that everything from crockery hire, to catering, portable toilets, marquee hire, staffing and entertainment needed to be organised ourselves. We had a long way to go! Ruth was great – she turned what was developing into a loathed, stressful situation into an absolute joy. She established exactly what needed doing, was meticulous to detail and was not going to leave anything to chance. With all her knowledge of the industry and her natural creative flair, she was able to grasp our vision, improve it and join the dots from dream to reality – all under the pressure of a ridiculously short timeframe! Ruth had a tireless drive to reduce costs and keep the budget in check. She was good at negotiating, putting to use her knowledge of costs within the industry and using some of her own, high-calibre suppliers. She definitely slashed costs in areas where we would have blindly put up the money none the wiser. We opted not only for Ruth to be coordinating the wedding day, but also her to be there for the set up the day before and the clear down the day after. She worked unstintingly throughout it all – from directing suppliers, decorating the marquee, laying out the table places, through to dealing with a power cut halfway through the reception (which no-one even noticed happened!). It was such a comfort knowing she was there making it all happen and run smoothly! It truly would not have been the same without her! Above all this, we genuinely enjoyed working with Ruth and getting to know her – she’s a great person, who we hope to stay in contact with in the future.
I first spoke with Ruth in a taxi on the way to Heathrow, where six months before our wedding in the UK, I was about to board a plane to relocate to Hong Kong. Needless to say, I was all over the place and so were our wedding plans! Ruth offers a variety of tailored services depending on how much, or how little you want. I found this really useful as it meant that I had the flexibility to see how wedding planning went from Hong Kong, and decide on what areas I would need help with. We decided to use Ruth's services in the imminent lead up to our wedding and on the day itself. Our wedding was in a marquee at my parents' home, and so having someone there to manage everything was an absolute necessity. Having not met Ruth face to face, a few emails and a marathon skype session later, I found her incredibly easy and relaxed to chat to and she gave some great advice on things I hadn't had a moment to think about. Ruth whipped all our suppliers into shape, caught a few balls which I most certainly would have dropped, and even caught all the bugs buzzing around the marquee. Ultimately, Ruth went above and beyond her remit and turned into a wedding fairy who worked her magic whilst I was wandering around in a jet lagged haze. She even taught the bridesmaids (and an usher!) how to fold napkins in a French pleat. I can assure you that if you will not regret a decision to use Finesse Planning. Ruth was super-efficient, down to earth, and simply got all the jobs done without you knowing. If, like most brides, your wedding planning is overwhelming you, turn to Ruth who will get it ship-shape and back on track.
Nigel and I knew that over the two days we wanted two completely different themes for our wedding but had no idea how to go about achieving them. We had chosen Ellenborough Park as our venue and they recommended Ruth to us. We were not disappointed ! Ruth was able to guide us and make suggestions to enhance the look and feel of the weekend and also delivered an amazing service under budget! Everyone attending our Bedouin themed party remarked on its originality and the band that Ruth helped us to choose were the best we'd ever heard. Looking back at the photographs will be amazing and a fitting tribute to the hard work and enthusiasm Ruth put into making our weekend truly unforgettable.
Well, what can we say... I'm not sure Nick and I could find the words to describe how wonderful Ruth was on our wedding day. Having taken advantage of the 'on the day' service, Ruth was on hand from one month before the wedding, as well as on the day, and her contribution was invaluable. As soon as we spoke and met with Ruth, it felt like we'd known her for years, and she had the same rapport with our families and guests. We had the most wonderful wedding day and this was thanks in part to Ruth who managed to avert every issue that we encountered along the way with such ease and professionalism (and the men did try, what with the debacle of the lost shoes and the groom slipping on a muddy slope during a slightly over zealous photo opportunity!). Ruth's biggest contribution was allowing us and our parents to enjoy our wedding day. Ruth's meticulous attention to detail meant that she took over all the details of my planning and executed them without a hitch and with the finesse and panache that I could only have dreamed of achieving. This is for what I am most grateful. We could enjoy the time with our guests, instead of worrying about the details of the day. And even in the week leading up to the wedding, I was able to enjoy some quality time with my family and husband to be, as Ruth took on the task of calling suppliers to liase final arrangements and arrival times. All in all, we can't thank Ruth enough. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone whether they are in the initial planning stages or for the 'on the day' service. If only we had another party to plan....
Ruth Hunter was a Godsend. As we live in the States and had our celebration in the UK, we knew we’d need help and a detailed follow through of our plans. We discovered Ruth on the internet, quite like you may be doing now-unfortunately we weren’t able to meet face to face in the planning stages. However, we felt as though we knew her by the time we finally did meet days before our big day. What drew us to Ruth was how professional her website was and the awards she had received. Not only we were pleased with her planning expertise, we were delighted with her coordination of our three day celebration. Fortunately we had a good idea of what we wanted and where it was to happen. However, planning from across the pond wasn’t easy. Ruth’s professional exuberance and attention to detail helped us be less stressed. We’re so grateful that we found Ruth! She chatted via Skype with us for many hours and listened and asked loads of questions. There were so many things we hadn’t thought of. We were concerned about our budget, Ruth was very understanding and helped us stay within our limits and create a magical weekend. She’s a woman with a lot of brilliant ideas, a lot of experience and seemingly endless energy. She’s just the type of person you want to handle things. Ruth is highly organized and knows a lot of people and resources, which in turn saves couples money. People generally say on “your day” you’re nervous, that things will go wrong in the service-we were never worried because Ruth assured and showed us that she could handle anything that came her way. I don’t know what we would have done without her and I’m sure glad we didn’t have to find out! If you want your celebration to be magical and amazing, Ruth can do it. If you want small, beautiful details, like extraordinary decorations and being surprised with a glass of champagne and a heartfelt “congratulations”, then Ruth is your planner.
I just wanted to send a note to say a HUGE thank you, to you for providing us with your time, support and guidance, in both the lead up to our special day, and the day itself. We had the most amazing day, in fact, there aren't enough words to sum up how perfect it was and how lucky we are to have such a wonderful group of friends, family and helpful hands there with us on the day. Every parent wants the perfect day for their daughter’s wedding and Ruth’s contribution to our ‘perfect day’ was immeasurable. Ruth made sense of the cacophony of demanding ideas and translated them into something not just achievable but very magical and all against a stupidly tight schedule. When we got engaged neither of us had really thought about the type of wedding we might want and I certainly was a little overwhelmed by the whole process, particularly all the questions that people begin to ask you for which I had no immediate answers! This, combined with the fact that we both have really full on jobs sometimes taking us away from home meant that we decided to investigate getting help and I am so glad now that we did it was the best decision we made! As soon as we met Ruth with only our venue booked I knew that she would make our day amazing and what impressed me so much was how much time she spent getting to know us and asking us the right questions to get us really thinking about what was most important to us from the day. From there it was easy - having Ruth on board at the beginning meant we could take advantage of her wealth of knowledge and connections and her suggestions of who to use for everything from flowers to bands, hair and make up were all spot on saving me hundreds of hours of research! She took care of everything and liaised with everyone involved in the day, also visiting the venue on our behalf which being in the Cotswolds was not convenient for us to pop into! Between Ruth and the venue we had chosen (who were also fantastic) we had a great time planning the day and the whole experience was stress free from start to finish which was a revelation! The best part about having Ruth there through the experience and on the day itself was being able to focus solely on enjoying the time with family and friends and also spending time together as a couple, without needing to sort anything or tell people where to be etc. We were able to spend the day and evening before the wedding catching up with arriving family and having dinner and drinks knowing that everything for the next day was in hand, giving us truly precious memories of what was a wonderful weekend. Overall we couldn't recommend Ruth highly enough and we certainly saw the benefits of having her on board from the very start of our journey, making the most of her amazing knowledge and experience to give us the perfect day.
It is difficult to describe in words how fantastic Ruth is and how much of a pleasure it is to work with her. We must have said about 100 times during the wedding planning– “What would we do without Ruth”. Ruth ensured that we had the most fantastic wedding day with no stress or worry. Many of our guests have told us that it was the best wedding they have ever been to and that was down to Ruth’s hard work, attention to detail and creative ideas. At first I was unsure whether we needed a wedding planner but having been through the process I would recommend anyone getting married to hire Ruth immediately. Hiring Ruth was far and away the best decision and the best money we spent in relation the wedding. Not only did Ruth save us plenty of money by negotiating deals with suppliers she was also able to suggest suppliers who she had worked with in the past and could personally recommend. This was a major help and made this process so much easier. There is more to wedding planning than you may think from the outset and issues do crop up during the planning process, however, Ruth dealt with all the issues for us and had resolved any problems before we even knew about them - including finding a new caterer on 6 weeks notice and getting the new caterer to honour our previous arrangement. Having Ruth to rely on for these things was invaluable and made the run up to the wedding enjoyable rather than stressful. Ruth’s experience in organising weddings really does come into its own and she is able to advise you on all aspects of the day and what has worked well in the past. As well as being an amazing wedding planner, Ruth is also a genuinely lovely person and it is such fun working with her. Ruth became our friend during the wedding process and she really cared that our wedding went to plan. Ruth goes above and beyond in helping you to realise any ideas you may have and will not stop until she finds you whatever you need – whether it be props, table decorations or any small thing which you want for you big day. She is also always available for your to brainstorm ideas or discuss concerns and provides huge support during the build up to the wedding. For me not emailing or chatting with Ruth every day after the wedding was quite strange as we had spent 7 months working together and I will honestly miss working with her. If anyone was to ask me for wedding advice my only recommendation would be hire Ruth because then you will have the most amazing wedding day. We were completely blown away but how fantastic Ruth was and how hard she worked in ensuring our wedding was everything we wanted.
